What do you think has generated the data? Describe an economic model or tell a story. What variables do you need to use to answer your research question?
Data sources, transparent data work. Anyone who read your paper should be able to reproduce the results.
Motivation -of the method. Build up your argument step by step: start with raw correlations, and proceed towards your preferred econometric specification. Explain why you are making each step; be specific.
Statistical significance, the magnitude of estimated effects. Suppose that your estimated effect of education on income = 1000% per year of schooling. Would you believe this number?
