• Identify the author’s thesis and purpose
• Identify your evaluation of the work make an argument, or reach a conclusion
• Use textual evidence to support claim(s)
• Examine and interpret elements idea of the reading and discuss why these elements ideas are important or significant
• Discuss how ideas/elements in the text connect to other ideas in this or other texts.
• Consider any cause and effects
• Consider any advantages and disadvantages
• Consider effectiveness and ineffectiveness
• Research unfamiliar ideas and content
• Practice critical reading and critical writing
