What is the difference between participant-observation and ethnography?What kind of research method produces the best results?

Chapter. 15, Religion

Homework
For each module, I am asking that you submit what is commonly called a 3-2-1 assignment, where you write, in complete sentences, a minimum of 3 pieces of information you learned from the chapter,… TWO questions you have for the text or the class, and 1 synthesis (an overarching understanding that ties together multiple concepts) of the week’s chapter.

Purpose
The purpose of these assignments is to help you identify and describe the sociological concepts from the week’s readings. These assignments should also help get you in the habit of taking notes while you read, coming up with questions to ask, and to synthesize and translate reading material into your own words.
Criteria for Success
For each module, you will need to read the text for the following module’s topic. Then you are to post in the 3-2-1 discussion area some text (although additional media are welcome) that, in complete sentences, contains at least:
Three (3) pieces of information that you took from the readings;

Two (2) questions you would ask of either your instructor or your classmates; and

One (1) big takeaway—a synthesis of the week’s reading.
• They do not have to be a coherent paragraph or composition—they can come as a list or bullet points but should be written in complete sentences.
Example of a Successful Submission
1. Quantitative data are things that can be counted.

2. Qualitative data are things that need to be described verbally.

3. Empirical evidence is evidence that can be observed with the 5 senses.

1. What is the difference between participant-observation and ethnography?

2. What kind of research method produces the best results?
1. You need to pick a method before you begin your research because that affects what kind of data you collect.
