The purpose of this part of your assignment is to critically investigate an area within teaching and learning for your subject, and its representation in the school curriculum, with reference to relevant literature. You will aim to provide an overview of current knowledge, allowing you to identify relevant theories, methods, and gaps in the existing research of the area that you choose to explore. You should consider the ideologies that underpin the teaching of your subject and subject pedagogy.
Your chosen area can be any aspect of your subject pedagogy that is suitable for educational investigation through the critical comparison of literature. The study must be related to the teaching of your subject in the Secondary School. You are advised to pick an area of interest that will motivate you to investigate it and to write about it. You should not just summarise the literature you read, but try to analyse, synthesise, and critically evaluate it to give a clear picture of the state of knowledge on your area of interest.
