Each student will conduct an in-depth case study of a specific aircraft accident (from the list above) utilizing the related NTSB accident report as well as other sources. Students will be expected to write an in-depth analysis of the accident, addressing the following:
1. A brief timeline of the accident (including the events leading up to the accident) and the probable cause (as determined by the NTSB)
. 2. The role of the crew (including flight attendants if applicable).
3. The role of management personnel, flight dispatchers, air traffic controllers, aircraft manufacturers, maintenance, weather forecasts and actual conditions in the accident.
4. The lessons learned and what measures (training, procedural, technological, regulatory, etc.) have been or should still be adopted to prevent a similar accident.
5. In addition to the four basic areas above, a top-notch paper will include some aspect of the accident which you personally find intriguing that you can research more fully and explain in greater detail.
