This is the second of four journal entries you will be completing for the course. Each journal entry will build on the previous one(s) in a way to help you establish a clearer view on how your beliefs and values effect your ethical and legal perspectives of health care.
For the second journal, review the content from the presentation on standards of care. Look at the false assumption you discussed in journal entry #1 and consider how the false assumption consequences could connect to one value that is a part of a standard of care related to the false assumption
This is an analysis of a suit against Carson City Hospital and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital (both in Michigan) regarding the care of a full-term infant who later was discharged with the diagnosis of cerebral palsy secondary to early anoxia. It includes elements of a malpractice suit (including duty owed, breach of duty, causation and harm).
This case asks whether or not there was a breach of duty by nurses ultimately leading to a patients death. Did the nurses wrongly delegate a task that should have been carried out by a Registered Nursing? Make sure to consider the differences in opinion of the expert witnesses for the plaintiff vs. the defendant.
