Rappaccini – The mad, posthuman scientist Paper details: The working title i chose is „Rappaccini – The posthumanist, mad scientist“ but you can change it if you think something else is better fitting. My Professor gave me some instructions, yet they seem quite vague hence my insertion on this platform. She wants me to write an introduction obviously, yet hasn‘t specified what she wants in it but i‘m pretty sure it will get clear once i continue. The next step she called „Chapter 2“ where she wants me to research Hawthorne and the theme of the mad scientist (like in the birthmark of in the scarlet letter) in romanticism – with a link to the mad (posthuman) scientist that Rappaccini is. In „Chapter 3“ she wants me to compare Rappachinni vs Giovanni and further explore the theme of the mad scientist. In „Chapter 4“ posthumanism and beatrice as the posthuman other and her and her affinity to the flowerworld are to be explored. Further she said that in general she wants me to explore Hawthorne’s human community (scarlet letter – freunde im wald, electionday – native american, natur wider als eigene, beatrice as femme fatal) And finally she wants me to draw a conclusion and has herewith mentioned the cambridge companion online, yet i don‘t know in which regard it was necessary. At this pont in the discussion she also mentioned „Rosi breidotti – posthumanism“ so i reckon she‘d like me (you) to include it in the essay. I am going to add the sources she already provided me with. In general she wants me to discuss „Rappaccini the evil“ and posthumanism and you can if you want draw parallels to other „mad scientists“ or posthuman scientists like Frankenstein. I hope the instructions are clear. Also feel free to message me with regards to the essay or the essay instructions.
