Instructor requires:
– Length: 4-5 Paragraphs, double-spaced [except for indented quotations] and with an original title. [Three FULL pages = minimum length].
– REMEMBER THAT YOUR FIRST RULE OF PRONOUN USE IS NOT TO USE THE FIRST PERSON “I” IN YOUR ESSAY!
– Citations should be parenthetical by page number.
– Find important themes and limit your topic and thesis to dealing with only a small (but crucial) aspect of the (entire) novel. –
All papers will be graded on the logic of their structure and organization (clarity and cogency of thesis and topic sentences) and on the persuasiveness and originality of their use of evidence.
– You should only have to worry about citing and making use of one text, Jude the Obscure, not multiple critical sources.
– Note that for any decent body paragraph, you would want at least three burgers per paragraph, with possibly more evidence more casually embedded.

Personal wishes: I personally see Sue almost as a villain, but she is unique and unconventional. Emphasize the differences in herself, her changes, and how it matters to society, the main character. Indicate clearly her roles, what is she represented for.
