Writing Literacy Plan: Current Event Assignment

1. Read the current event article given.
2. After reading it, address in a separate sheet of paper each of the following.
A. Main Idea (125 words minimum)
– Summarize in a paragraph the main idea of the article.
– Provide two pieces of evidence from the text that support the main idea.
B. Personal Opinion (125 words minimum)
Discuss any comments or opinions you have about the article. Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not did you find it interesting? What did you learn?
Include any comments or opinions about the article you have.
C. Write down four vocabulary words from the article that you are not familiar with OR which you think are important for understanding the main idea of the article. Provide definitions for these words OR explain why the words are important for understanding the main idea of the article.
D. Analyze, evaluate, or synthesize the information in this article by:
• Describing in a paragraph the impact this topic or event could have on
our society. (100 words minimum)
• Write down at least three questions you have about the topic after
reading the article.
3. This Current Event assignment is worth 90 points. Points will be deducted for late assignments as specified in the tardy policy. Make sure your writing is legible and free of grammar mistakes. Illegible assignments will not be graded and a zero grade will be assign! You could also type your work.
