Essay Guidelines:
Your research essay must use a specific and credible children’s author as an authority. You may use an early children’s book or a young adult book for this essay. This assignment is best accomplished with a favourite book from your own childhood or early teen years.
Before making your choice, be sure that you can find some credible online references about your author.
1. Discuss how ONE children’s (or young adult) author writes about a difficult or challenging family problem.
2. Discuss how a children’s author talks about gender identity in a way that gives the reader a sense of belonging and pride.
3. Discuss a children’s book that deals with the new Canadian’s immigrant family experience coming to Canada and adapting to a new life.
4. Discuss a good book that deals with a childhood experience adapting to a physical or emotional disability or challenge.
5. Discuss an excellent children’s book that teaches us about environmental protection in a creative and unique way.
