Housing Segregation in America
After reading Chapter 5 of your text on “Civil Rights and Public Policy,” and watching the documentary
by Richard Rothstein, “Segregated by Design,” write a brief report that contains three
separate sections that address the following questions. Please notice the expected word count for each
section.
1. Briefly describe specific policies at the federal, state and local levels that were responsible for
racial segregation in housing in the United States. This section should be approximately 150-200
words.
2. What are some of the implications of these policies? Be certain to mention the long-term
effects on relative levels of income and wealth accumulation of white and black Americans? This
section should be approximately 100-150 words.
3. What specific parts of the U.S. Constitution did these past policies violate and what types of
remedies are advocated in the film? This section should be approximately 100-150 words.
