Students are required to prepare a carefully constructed response to TWO (2) of the questions listed below.The essay portion of the final exam should be at least 250-words for EACH question , typed, double-spaced in a standard 12 point font (Times New Roman). Students must cite from the various sources by using in-text quotations to support your ideas.
1.) What components impacted the social outlook of Malcolm X’s early life events which later influenced his interest in the Nation of Islam . Do you think the ION is UN-American or unpatriotic? Think about the role of his father and mother, Garvey ism, had on Malcolm’s political ideology. Why did Malcolm leave the ION and how did he continue to contribute towards the plight of African people, especially within an international context? Provide specific examples.
2.) Discuss the advancement of Black Women’s Studies in connection to the institutionalization of Black Studies and Women’s Studies. Discuss the difference’s between Black feminism and African a Womanish. What organizations supported the role of Black Women’s Liberation? What are some of the current struggles African American woman face in society in general and within the university specifically? Why was there a need for Black Women Studies? Is the need still present in 2018? Be as specific as possible.
