Nudity and the Male/Female Gaze
Pornography is one of the issues that has raised different kinds of concerns in the society. The main concern of pornography in the society is based on the belief that it will corrupt the morals of people especially when they get exposed to sexually explicit material.
However, pornography is a wide topic and one of its subcategories is the feminism’s relationship with the law in order to regulate, change, or eradicate pornography in the society. It has been difficult to end or legally restrict pornography in the society especially because of the difficulty to show that pornography produces harmful effects greater than the harm of legal intervention.
The harm of pornography must be serious as well as quantifiable and provable. Despite a long history of efforts of feminists to try and equalize women in all the facets of the society, women are still perceived as subjects especially when it comes to sex and this has been emphasized in pornographic activities and materials.
There are various important questions that need to be asked as far as pornography and women are concerned and these are: Is the law the answer? and What are the differing arguments on the effects of pornography on women by feminists?
