Kant’s duty-based approach might directly conflict with teleological approaches, for in a utilitarian solution, individuals could very easily serve as the means for other ends. Duty-based ethical analysis leads a manager to consider the following questions:
What if everyone did what I’m about to do? What kind of world would this be? Can I universalize the course of action I am considering?
Does this course of action violate any basic ethical duties?
Are there alternatives that better conform to these duties? If each alternative seems to violate one duty or another, which is the stronger duty?
