Which of the two of you valued the experience more? In what way might Douglass’ experience be superior? Do you remember wanting to learn to read and write or is your memory more aligned with being forced to learn?
You do not have to answer all of the above questions. These are some possibilities for you to think about as you write the essay. The essay needs to meet the minimum word count specified in the syllabus, but the focus of your comparison is left up to you.
