Discussion 4 – Geologic Time/Oceans
1. Give an example of relative dating and an example of absolute dating in geologic time.Describe how we can determine the age of a rock.
2. Describe uniformitarianism and the principle of superposition. How might this be used in determining geologic time?
3. Describe dendrochronology. Search Google for an article and picture of this process. How old are some of the trees on earth? Can this be used to date something or what’s its usefulness to science? How does it work in your own words? Remember to provide a reference list at the bottom of your discussion post.
4. Describe the importance of our oceans for climate, business, etc. Be sure to include something specific, such as employment, resources, heat transportation, gyres, etc. Why are they important, in your own words, given what you’ve now studied?
