I have the experience of working as a counselor that enhance my desire to get a doctorate. I was inspired to get my doctorate after conducting research every time I was intrigued. I would have questions regarding an experience that my clients would have. For example, one of my clients struggles to raise an adolescent who has a diagnosis of autism. However, my interest lies more in the area of trauma and its impact on clients. Specifically, I want to look at the effects of deployment on active duty family members. Being a counselor, a person of color, a woman, and a child of a retired military officer, I have experienced trauma. People who have suffered trauma commonly experience emotional pain and stress. I have developed resilience as a personality trait that only some people possess. Connecting with empathetic and understanding people can remind one that people are not alone during difficulties.
