In this assignment, you will write a rough draft that is a minimum of 1,000 words on the environmental issue topic that you chose in Module 1. Your draft should include both your researched sources and your two ethical theories.
Your rough draft should bring together all of the following:
The research paper topic chosen in Module 1 (specific, current, manageable, and relating to both philosophical and environmental ethics)
The thesis statement polished in Modules 1 and 2
The philosophical ethical theory and the environmental ethical theory chosen in Module 2
The three sources chosen in Module 2 (these three sources may not include DesJardins and Pojman, although you may use the assigned course texts in your rough draft in addition to your three sources)
Combine the above components as you compose the research paper rough draft.
As with your critical evaluation essays, your research paper rough draft should include all the Essential Elements listed in the Essay Writing Guide: introduction, thesis statement, definitions and examples, with a minimum of 4–6 body paragraphs (4–8 sentences each), arguments, counterargument and response, quotations, and conclusion.
In addition, you should integrate both one foundational philosophical ethical theory and one environmental ethical theory. You may use the theory to support your argument or argue against another theory.
Finally, as noted in the Essay Writing Guide, you should “employ [your] critical thinking skills” and ensure “an evaluative component is central” to your rough draft.
