A critical literature review will be undertaken to identify the attributes of self-management using 3 steps.
First, a literature review will be identified and understood themes relating to self-management of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and the role of nurse to inform a topic guide by using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA).
Second, the topic guide will be used to explain how to identify specific self-management strategies for T2DM patients.
Third, the topic guide will further be refined following self-management of T2DM patients and the role of the nurse in prophylaxis and management.
Research Question: Can Type 2 diabetes in adults can be reversed? If Yes, What guidance and support nurses and other healthcare professionals could provide to service users? If cannot be reversed, how nurses can support patients to maintain adequate control?
Details of participant population: The inclusion criteria will be that the participant had a clinical diagnosis of T2DM, over the age of 18-80 years, and information about diabetes education and interventions to manage diabetes. Studies, where participants were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), gestational diabetes and a mixture of T2DM with T1DM or other chronic conditions, will be excluded.
Inclusion criteria: had been published, only English, full text available, last 10 years, academic journal databases. Exclusion criteria: not been published, literature review, other languages, not available full text, over the 10 years.
Databases: CINAHL PLUS, Google Scholar, MEDLINE, TRIP DATABASE, COCHRANE.
