This week’s discussion board is all about you. I’ve changed the format for today’s class to a personal self-care time. I’d like you all to document how this new strikes you and what you do with your newly freed up time. Share as you are comfortable.
The idea here is to help you understand yourselves and how you react to not only change but the opportunity to focus on your needs. Do you automatically fill up that time with your to-do list? Homework for another class? Helping family or friends meet their needs? Think about the ethical implications of prioritizing your own needs in an effort to improve the quality of care you can provide.
Have you ever heard the old adage “You’re no good to anyone if you’re too exhausted to function at a high level”? It’s true! Is it then ethical for you to make yourself a priority in a manner that allows you to be more present and sharp when you are at work next?
Please also do a quick literature search and provide at least one article or research paper that substantiates the benefits of self-care to quality patient care or any literature about the ethics of self-care.
