LAB SAFETY AND PLAGIARISM

How important do we really think safety when dealing with chemical substances is. How many of on wear our safety belts? Do we don Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the kitchen? What do we really know about the substances we use for washing our clothes or dishes, the fluids we use to clean, or even the vitamins and supplements we take on faith that they are safe? In this lab, we’ll explore important safety concepts that should stay in the forefront of your mind as you move through this course.

PART 2: PLAGIARISM
1. Plagiarism is a topic that must be discussed and considered in every course, whether online or face to face. View and read these CCCOnline sites, Academic Integrity Policy and Consequences for Plagiarism to understand the definition of plagiarism that is being used in this course. 2. Lab report data and narratives are the most commonly plagiarized item in online classes. That is because a student may have a friend who already took the class and offers their papers, hired an online lab report writing service, or just searched the internet and cut/pasted information and text. All of these are considered plagiarism. Even plagiarizing yourself is not allowed, as if you took the class before, and just resubmitted your work, you are not retaking the class and using the opportunity to refine your skills, which is probably the reason the class had to be retaken. o Open the lab report examples here: Lab Report Example 1 Lab Report Example 2 and Lab Report Example 3. These reports have been examined by our originality checking software which will be used for all of the Assignments you submit for this course. The software highlights any content that it matches to previously turned in documents or the internet. o Read through and state if you think plagiarism occurred for each example. If so, how could you tell? (list out specifics) o What kind of penalty might each of the students receive? Provide your answer in 4-6 sentences and make sure to address each example.
Finally, keeping this lab and the Laboratory Safety agreement in mind, you will want to navigate to the Module 1 Safety and Plagiarism Quiz and complete it. NOTE: You must schedule a time to take this quiz 24 hours in advance. Navigate to the Module 1/Quizzes folder for more information.
